Tell us about your artistic background and experience. What led you to pursue art as a creative outlet?:
I am a self-taught artist with 9 years of experience. Growing up, I used art to express myself and share my community’s stories. My passion for creativity and storytelling led me to pursue art as a career.
What inspires you as an artist? Are there specific themes or subjects that you find yourself drawn to?:
I’m inspired by nature, beauty, culture, and everyday life in my community. My art reflects these themes, capturing real stories and emotions that connect with people.
What do you hope to communicate or evoke through your art? Is there a specific message or emotion that you strive to convey to your audience?
Through my art, I highlight the silent struggles of women, especially in Kakuma, who work tirelessly for their families—collecting firewood, fetching water, and preparing food. I want to evoke empathy and appreciation for their strength and resilience.
Are there any particular artists or art movements that have influenced your work? How have they shaped your artistic perspective?
Arinze Stanley and Kelvin Okafor have greatly influenced my work with their mastery of realism and attention to detail. Their art inspires me to push my limits, focus on precision, and tell powerful stories through my drawings.
How do you handle criticism or feedback on your artwork? How do you use it to grow and improve as an artist?
I welcome criticism as a chance to learn and improve. I listen, analyze, and apply constructive feedback to refine my skills and make my art even better.
Are there any specific goals or aspirations you have for your artistic career? How do you plan to pursue them?
My goal is to grow Nhial Arts into a well-known brand, showcase my work globally, and inspire young artists, especially in refugee communities. I plan to achieve this by improving my skills, collaborating with galleries, and expanding my reach through exhibitions and social media.
